Heralded by its iconic twin cypresses, Quinta de Marrocos is one of the oldest "Quintas" of the Douro. It is located on the left bank of the Douro River, in the Lower Corgo, source of the Port wine Region. For generations it has been the headquarters of the Correia de Sequeira family, and it is the heart of Golddrink's activity.

At Quinta de Marrocos the grapes from old vineyards are still trodden by foot in xisto mills, and aged in wooden casks in the estate's quiet cellars. Thus are born Douro and Port wines with great complexity, which have been awarded for its outstanding quality in the most demanding international contests.

AN ENTRANCING TERROIR

Quinta de Marrocos vineyards extend up to 180m altitude, on terraces supported by stone walls. Exposure to the north is one of the key points, favoring a slow maturation of grapes: the altitude offers warm temperatures, the river breeze cools the vineyards at night. The average slope of 80% prevents mechanization, requiring an "heroic" viticulture. All work is manual, a century-old heritage that we want to keep, in respect for the age of the vines and the quality of the grapes. The low yields are inherent to this type of vines, without irrigation, in low fertility and a slightly acid pH schist soils.

CENTENARY VINEYARDS

Old vineyards are Quinta de Marrocos DNA. Over 100 years old, with more than 8,000 plants per hectare, here more than 50 noble and ancient grape varieties of the Douro grow together. A blend that reflects the wisdom of those who have chosen it, and the need to ensure enough production for survival. This diversity is our heritage, where past, present and future merge! The vineyards have acquired a natural balance over the years,"producing what they can, and not what they want." This is the secret of quality wines, dense, full-bodied, powerful, with elegant aromas and flavours.
